Excursions, Social Groups & Community Outings
NDIS Participants Welcome
NDIS participants are welcome to access our social groups and community participation activities where the support is appropriate to their individual NDIS goals and funding.
Our programs may support participant goals relating to:
Social and Community Participation
Supporting participants to engage with peers, access their community and participate in social and community-based activities.
Social Skills Development
Building communication, friendship, cooperation, confidence and the skills required to interact with others in a variety of settings.
Capacity Building
Developing skills and confidence that increase a participant’s independence and ability to participate in everyday social and community environments.
Community Access & Independence
Providing supported opportunities to practise accessing community environments, managing social situations, making choices and increasing independence.
NDIS Invoicing
For eligible NDIS participants, invoices can clearly describe the disability-related support and capacity-building activities provided, including social skill development and community participation.
Invoice descriptions may identify supports such as:
“Group-based social skill development and capacity building – supporting communication, peer interaction, independence and community participation.”
or
“Community participation and capacity-building support – developing social communication, independence and confidence accessing community environments.”
The ability to use NDIS funding will depend on the participant’s individual plan, goals, funding categories and plan-management arrangements. Families should confirm that the support is appropriate for their plan with their Plan Manager, Support Coordinator or NDIS contact prior to commencement.
Social Groups & Community Outings
At Eagle’s Wings Education, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Our social groups and regular community outings provide children and young people with opportunities to build friendships, develop confidence and practise important social and life skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Our social program includes group activities, community meet-ups and regular excursions to a variety of educational, recreational and community locations. These experiences allow participants to practise skills in real-life settings while connecting with peers and becoming more confident within their community.
Weekly Outings & Excursions
Our program includes regular outings and excursions where children can develop their skills outside of the main centre.
Depending on the program, outings may include museums, wildlife experiences, community facilities, cultural and educational venues, outdoor activities, workshops and other local community experiences.
These outings provide opportunities to practise skills such as following a group plan, communicating with others, navigating new environments, participating appropriately in community settings, making decisions and increasing independence.
Building Social Skills & Independence
Our small-group environment provides opportunities to develop and practise skills such as:
-
initiating and maintaining conversations
-
turn-taking and cooperative play
-
developing and maintaining friendships
-
reading social cues and responding appropriately
-
communicating needs and ideas
-
working collaboratively with peers
-
problem-solving and managing social situations
-
emotional regulation within a group environment
-
building confidence in unfamiliar settings
-
making choices and developing independence
-
safely accessing and participating in the wider community
Activities are designed to encourage social participation, community engagement, independence and capacity building through meaningful, age-appropriate experiences.
